What is website monitoring?
Website monitoring means automatically checking a page or a whole site on a schedule and being told when something changes. SiteGauge goes beyond uptime to watch what is actually on the page: content, visual layout, pricing, SEO and metadata, and availability. When a real change is confirmed it captures a screenshot, writes an AI summary, and sends you an alert.
What kinds of changes can SiteGauge detect?
Five broad categories: content (copy, sections, links), visual (a real before and after screenshot comparison), pricing (plan and promo changes), SEO and metadata (title tags, canonicals, noindex, headings, structured data), and availability (HTTP status and redirect changes). You can target or exclude specific parts of a page with CSS selectors to cut noise.
Is SiteGauge real-time?
No, and we will not pretend otherwise. SiteGauge checks on a schedule rather than continuously: daily on Free, hourly on Standard, every 15 minutes on Pro, every 5 minutes on Business, and as fast as every 2 minutes on Enterprise. As soon as a check confirms a real change you are alerted. There are no push notifications and no instant-detection promises.
How will I be notified when a page changes?
Email on every plan, including Free. From the Standard plan up you can also send alerts to Slack, Microsoft Teams, Discord, Telegram, Google Chat, webhooks, Google Sheets, and SMS. An RSS feed of changes is available on every plan, and you can connect Zapier through our REST-hook API using your API key. Chat channels connect through incoming webhooks or bot tokens you set up.
Can I monitor a whole website or just one page?
Both. Monitor a single page or URL, or track a whole domain or sitemap with a tiered per-page cadence from the Standard plan up. Each page is its own monitor with its own change history, and new pages found in a sitemap can be added automatically.
Will I get flooded with alerts for tiny edits?
No. You can include or exclude specific parts of a page with CSS selector ignore rules, and every significant change is scored for importance by AI, so a stripped canonical or a price change shouts while a reworded sentence stays quiet. Keyword alerts, a filterable change feed, and saved views help you focus on what matters.
Does it work on pages behind bot protection?
Often. Residential rendering reaches many Cloudflare and Akamai protected pages that ordinary scrapers cannot. It is not guaranteed on every site, since hard anti-bot systems can still block a request, but coverage of protected pages is a core strength.
