Lookalike domain monitoring: watch the typosquats of your brand

Find the registered typo versions of your domain with a free check, then let SiteGauge watch the ones that worry you and alert you, with screenshots, when their content changes.

The problem with lookalike domains

Lookalike domains such as a missing letter, two swapped letters or the same name on another ending are cheap to register and easy to miss in a link or an email address. Many sit parked for months, then switch to a copy of your login page or a fake shop on the day a phishing campaign starts. Nobody is watching them when that happens.

How SiteGauge helps

Run the free lookalike domain finder to see which common typos of your domain are registered, when, and whether they can send email. Add the ones that matter as monitors. SiteGauge checks each page on your schedule and alerts you when it changes, with before and after screenshots and a text diff, so you see a parked page turn into a login form instead of hearing about it from a customer.

  1. 1. Find the lookalikes

Run the free lookalike domain finder on your domain. It checks up to 200 common typo variants in DNS and shows which are registered, when, and whether they have mail records.

  2. 2. Watch the ones that matter

Add the lookalikes that are not yours as monitors. SiteGauge checks each page on your schedule, daily on the free plan and more often on paid plans.

  3. 3. Get alerted with a record

When a lookalike's content changes, for example a parked page becomes a sign-in form, you get an alert with before and after screenshots and a text diff.

What you get

Free lookalike check

The lookalike domain finder checks up to 200 common typo variants of your domain in DNS and shows which are registered, when (where the registry publishes it) and whether they have mail records.

Alerts when a lookalike changes

Each lookalike you add is checked on your schedule. When its content changes, for example from a parking page to a sign-in form, you get an alert by email, Slack, Teams or webhook.

Screenshots of each version

Every detected change keeps a screenshot and a text diff, so you have a dated record of what the domain showed and when.

Signed evidence export

On Business and Enterprise, a change can be exported as an evidence bundle: the captured files, a SHA-256 manifest and a signature anyone can check on our verification page. Useful when you file a registrar or hosting abuse report. See the verification page.

What this does not do

SiteGauge does not watch domain registration feeds, so it will not tell you when a brand new lookalike is registered. The free finder covers common typos of your exact name, not every possible variant or combinations with other words. A registered lookalike is not proof of abuse either: many are defensive registrations or parked by resellers. If you need full registration monitoring and takedowns, use a dedicated brand protection service alongside SiteGauge.

Lookalike domain FAQs

What is typosquatting?
Typosquatting is registering a domain that differs from a real brand's domain by a small typing mistake or a lookalike character, such as a missing letter, two letters swapped, rn in place of m, or the same name on a different ending. The aim is to catch people who mistype the address or do not look closely at a link or an email sender, usually for phishing, invoice fraud, fake shops or ad revenue.
Does SiteGauge detect new lookalike registrations automatically?
No. SiteGauge does not watch domain registration feeds. You find registered lookalikes with the free lookalike domain finder, which you can run again at any time, and SiteGauge then watches the lookalikes you add and alerts you when their pages change. If you need alerts the moment a new lookalike is registered, that is the job of a dedicated brand protection or registration monitoring service.
Why monitor a lookalike that is only a parked page?
A parked lookalike is not doing harm yet, but the moment it changes to a copy of your site, a sign-in form or a payment page is the moment it starts to. An alert at that point, with a screenshot of the new page, gives you time to warn staff and customers and to report the domain while the campaign is still starting.
Is it safe to monitor a possibly malicious domain?
SiteGauge loads monitored pages from its own cloud infrastructure, not from your computer, so nobody on your team has to open the lookalike to see what it shows. The free lookalike domain finder goes further and uses DNS lookups only, without loading the sites at all.
Can I use SiteGauge captures in an abuse report?
Yes. Every detected change keeps dated screenshots and a text diff you can attach to a report to a registrar or hosting provider. On Business and Enterprise you can also export a change as a signed evidence bundle that anyone can verify on our verification page.
